The Science of Stories: How Pop Culture Shapes What We Believe - 2:30pm

From comic books and horror films to viral TV shows, science has long been a source of inspiration—and sometimes misconception—in popular culture. Authors Kelly Florence and Meg Hafdahl, known for exploring the intersections of science and horror, join physicist and author Jim Kakalios (The Physics of Superheroes) to examine how storytelling shapes public perceptions of science. Moderated by journalist David Montgomery, the panel will unpack what pop culture gets right (and wrong) about science, why those portrayals matter, and how entertainment can spark curiosity, creativity, and even new paths into STEM.
