From the New York Times bestselling author, an examination of how artificial intelligence is poised to revolutionize early childhood development and parenting—and what parents need to know to safeguard their children's healthy development and capacity for human connection.

In her groundbreaking book Thirty Million Words, Dana Suskind explored the transformative power of parent talk in building children's brains. Now, with the advent of artificial intelligence, the importance of parent talk has become even clearer. While new AI applications demonstrate what technology can replicate, they also illuminate what it cannot: the capacity of parent talk to build not just skills, but our very capacity for human connection.

Human Raised reveals the possibilities and perils of using AI and related technologies for child-rearing. From cry monitors, to smart cribs that soothe babies, to interactive chatbots designed to hold a conversation with an inquisitive toddler, the parenting landscape is shifting fast. Parents want to know: what is safe, and what is healthy for their children? Suskind helps new parents navigate this strange new world.

As a world-leading researcher, pediatric physician, and mother of seven children, Suskind is uniquely positioned to guide us through this terrifying period of transition. This paradigm-shifting book will help parents make informed decisions about technology and their children.
