Who reads physical books anymore? Doesn't Amazon sell all books? And sell them cheaper? These are the questions I get from skeptics when I say I want to open a bookstore. And they are right to some extent. But I do believe people still like looking at physical books. Think about it, no remembering to charge, no glare in sunlight, no worries about dropping it, you can tell your place in a book just by looking, no distracting popups to pull you away, the smell of the paper its printed on...I could go on! And yes, Amazon sells everything and yes they may be cheaper but I would rather have a smaller curated list of interesting books to browse and discover than millions and millions of books with reviews from random strangers. I would rather have a physical place to look at a book and possibly sit down and read a few pages before I decide to buy. I would rather have a place where I can go meet the author in person, or listen to the idea behind the book described and explained. I would rather have a place to discuss the book with my friends or a group of like minded neighbors. And I know some of you feel the same way. So, that's why I'm opening a physical bookstore. And yes, online stores are more important than ever, especially in this newly post-covid world, so The Thinking Spot will have an online component - for convenience - but not as a replacement for the real thing. We hope to see you reading alongside us at the The Thinking Spot soon!
