About the event
The 15th Annual Raksha 5K Run/Walk & Vigil to End Distracted Driving is Aug 6th 2022. Â Vijay Dixit is the Founder and chairman of the Shreya Dixit Memorial Foundation, which organizes the walk. He will be presenting the past, present and future of this mission to end distracted driving in Minnesota and beyond.Â
This event will also kick off fundraising efforts for the foundation through The Thinking Spot. Â Pick up donation vouchers in-store or online starting July 15th. Â Then from July 23rd through August 12th, all purchases using the vouchers will result in a percentage of net sales going back to the foundation.Â
The name "Raksha" comes from "Raksha Bandhan",  an Indian festival that commemorates a centuries-old tradition in which a sister ties a ceremonial band on her brother’s wrist and prays for his protection and safety. A simple band, therefore, binds brothers and sisters in an inseparable bond. Much like this bond between brother and sister, they want to encourage a bond between drivers on the road; promising to drive distraction-free in order to protect each other and the community.
Since the inception of the Raksha Walk in 2009, all Minnesota Governors have proclaimed the day of the Minnesota walk as Distraction-Free Driving Awareness Day in the state of Minnesota.Â
Vijay Dixit is the founder and chairman of the Shreya dixit memorial foundation, a 501-c3 nonprofit advocating distraction-free driving, and Author of "One Split Second - The distracted driving epidemic, how it kills and how we can fix it". Â Â He is also a board member of Eden Prairie Local News and a member of the EPLN Development Committee and journalism team.
