About the event
Programming is fast becoming a necessary skill, next to reading, writing, and arithmetic. Kids today grow up surrounded by technology and intuitively understand technology. But when it comes to teaching the underlying concepts, we in Minnesota are surprisingly, among the worst in the nation.
Given my computer science background, I've been thinking of ways to get kids excited about coding early. I believe, that learning to code and engaging in programming, instills the ideas of logical thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, and creativity that will come in handy, no matter what they do later in life!
With that in mind, this fall, I'm offering once-a-week after-school Coding Club. We will use the block programming language Scratch.
We will start by introducing Scratch, creating our "identities" in Scratch, and playing around with it until we are somewhat comfortable with the platform. After that, we will move on to creating projects that demonstrate the use of coding in different subjects - Science, Math, Language Arts, and even Music.
This first session will run for 6 weeks ending on Nov 10th. Workshop dates:
- September 29th
- October 6th
- October 13th
- NO SESSION Oct 20th
- October 27th
- November 3rd
- November 10th
